AFTERSCHOOL FOR ALL: PROJECT 2010 CONTINUES TO GAIN SUPPORT

The Afterschool Alliance's Afterschool for All: Project 2010, a sign-on campaign designed to demonstrate the diverse support for afterschool, is growing by leaps and bounds. Project 2010 was launched in May 2004 with 250 individual and organizational partners. There are currently more than 2,900 Project 2010 partners representing every state.

Among the Project 2010 partners are prominent leaders such as: governors, mayors, police chiefs, and prosecutors; concerned citizens from communities nationwide; educators, colleges, and universities; and organizations representing a broad array of sectors, including AARP, the Children's Defense Fund, Citigroup Inc., IBM, the NAACP, the National Council of La Raza, the National PTA, the AFL-CIO, Time Warner, the NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL, The US Conference of Mayors, and YMCA of the USA.

In America today, 14.3 million children are alone and unsupervised in the hours after school. Afterschool for All: Project 2010 brings together individuals and organizations from across the nation who support the vision that all children and youth deserve access to quality, affordable afterschool programs by the year 2010.

The Alliance hopes that this list will convey the broad and diverse support that exists for access to afterschool for all children. Sign on to Project 2010, and urge colleagues to join. Visit the Project 2010 online sign-up form at http://www.afterschool2010.org/join.cfm.
